Receipt Printers

Set up and use compatible receipt printers with the Tiquo Staff iOS app

Tiquo supports receipt printing using compatible Epson printers connected to the Staff iOS app on iPhone and iPad. The Tiquo T800 Receipt Printer is currently marked Coming Soon in Settings → Hardware.

Receipt printers are treated as accessories and can be used for:

  • Till receipts
  • Kitchen tickets
  • Physical KDS setups
  • Booking tickets with QR codes

This depends on how the iPad and sublocation are configured.

Printers can be connected using:

  • Bluetooth (recommended)
  • USB
  • WiFi or Ethernet (depending on the printer hardware)

Bluetooth is generally recommended for reliability, especially with mobile tills or multiple stations.

Supported platforms

Receipt printers are currently supported on:

  • Staff iOS app on iPhone
  • Staff iOS app on iPad

Receipt printing is not supported via the web app or directly via card readers. The web dashboard can still send a receipt to a printer connected to an iPhone or iPad with Cloud Print (see Cloud printing).

Printing receipts

Printing from order history

You can manually print a receipt at any time by:

  1. Opening the Tiquo Staff iOS app
  2. Navigating to Order History
  3. Selecting the order
  4. Tapping View Receipt
  5. Tapping Print Receipt

This works as long as:

  • The printer is connected to the iPad or iPhone via Bluetooth, USB, or supported network connection
  • The device is running the Tiquo Staff iOS app

Non iOS devices can only send receipts via email and do not support physical printing.

Automatic printing via sublocations

If an iPad and one or more printers are assigned to a specific sublocation, receipts and tickets can be routed automatically.

This includes:

  • Till receipts
  • Kitchen tickets
  • Physical KDS tickets

For automatic printing to work:

  • The Tiquo app must be open on the iPad
  • The iPad must be set to the correct sublocation
  • Every destination printer must be connected to the iPad

Several supported printers can remain connected simultaneously. Configure the sublocation and KDS destination for each one. The app sends eligible till receipts and kitchen tickets to every matching connected printer.

Cloud printing

A printer connected to a device running Tiquo App, such as an iPad, is also a cloud printer: other devices and the dashboard can send work to it through its host device. Every printer a host has connected is listed, so an iPad with a receipt printer and a kitchen printer offers both.

  • From an order: open More > Documents > Cloud Print on the order page and choose a printer. The list shows the cloud printers that are online now, each by host device, printer, connection, sublocation, and location. When none are online, it says No cloud printers are currently online.
  • For a ticket station: choose the station's Assigned Printer under Sublocation Settings > KDS Locations. See Printed ticket stations.

A job sent to a particular printer reaches that printer, not the host's default one, and reaches it whichever sublocation of the organisation its host is signed in to. Keep the host device online with Tiquo App open.

KDS and till display modes

Tiquo supports both physical and digital kitchen display setups.

Physical KDS (printed order tickets)

Physical KDS means printed order tickets. When a printer is connected:

  • Kitchen order tickets are printed automatically
  • The printer acts as a physical KDS for kitchen staff

In the sublocation's KDS location settings, Tickets per order can print from 1 to 10 identical copies of each routed order ticket. Assigned Printer sends the location's tickets to one cloud printer; leave it on Any available printer to use whichever printer is available in the order's sublocation.

At least one supported iPhone or iPad must be online with the Tiquo App open and the destination printer connected. Orders created elsewhere in Tiquo can then be routed to that physical KDS host.

Staged kitchen tickets

For orders using HOLD/FIRE stages, choose the physical ticket flow in Sublocation Settings:

  • Print all items, then an Away ticket: the first ticket contains FIRE and HOLD products. Releasing a held stage prints a line-free STAGE AWAY ticket.
  • Print FIRE items only: held products are omitted initially. Releasing the stage prints those products as STAGE · FIRE.

Ticket layout settings control Small, Medium, or Large text for the header, stages, and products. Top spacing can be None, Small, Medium, or Large. Tickets can also include the responsible staff member, booking guests, inventory/table context, sent round, and selected kitchen messages when that information is available. An order with allergen details prints an allergen warning on its kitchen tickets, including tickets printed when a held stage is released. See Allergen warnings.

A voided line in a held stage never prints on that stage's FIRE ticket.

VOID tickets

When a line the kitchen already has is voided on an open tab, its station can print a VOID ticket, depending on the sublocation's Void tickets setting: Print automatically (the default), Ask staff each time, or Don't print. A voided line prints struck through under a VOID tag. When only part of a line is voided, the voided units print struck through and the units still wanted print as a live line marked with the earlier quantity, for example 2 x Fries (was 3). Wasted items never print.

Voiding a whole open tab prints one VOID ticket per station with every line the kitchen has on paper, unless Void tickets is set to Don't print. See Void tickets.

Digital KDS

Orders can be displayed directly on the iPad as a digital KDS, without any printer connected.

This is suitable for venues that prefer a screen based kitchen workflow.

Till display mode

In Till Display Mode:

  • Receipts are automatically routed to the connected printer
  • This also applies when a card reader is docked to the iPad

Booking tickets and QR codes

Bookings that have QR code tickets associated with them can also be printed using a receipt printer.

Important:

  • QR code ticket printing must be done via the Staff iOS app on an iPhone or iPad
  • Other devices can only send tickets and receipts via email
  • Web app and non iOS devices do not support physical ticket printing

Printer connection

Receipt printers can be connected using:

  • Bluetooth (recommended)
  • USB
  • WiFi or Ethernet (depending on the printer model)

Bluetooth is recommended for mobile tills and setups with multiple stations because it is easy to set up and move between devices.

Cash drawers

A cash drawer connected through a supported printer can be used from the Tiquo Staff iOS app. Open Printer Settings after connecting the printer:

  • A detected drawer makes cash payments available at checkout.
  • Open Cash Drawer sends a test pulse to the printer's drawer port.
  • If the printer cannot report drawer status, turn on This printer has a cash drawer to offer cash payments while that printer is connected.

Test the drawer before opening the till. The app does not offer cash when no drawer has been detected and no override is enabled.

Tiquo is built and tested primarily with the Epson TM-m30III, which we recommend for all new installations. This model offers the best performance and reliability across till, receipt, ticket, and KDS use cases.

Epson TM-m30III

Compatible Epson printers

Tiquo is also compatible with the following Epson receipt printers:

  • Epson TM-T20II
  • Epson TM-T88V
  • Epson TM-T88VI
  • Epson TM-m30II
  • Epson TM-m30II-H
  • Epson TM-m30II-S
  • Epson TM-m30III
  • Epson TM-m30III-H

While these printers are compatible, the TM-m30III is the recommended model and the one we actively test and optimise for.

Other compatible printers

  • Tiquo T800 Receipt Printer: Coming Soon in the hardware catalogue. Check availability before planning an installation.

The Tiquo T800 Receipt Printer cannot report whether a cash drawer is attached. If a drawer is connected through a Tiquo T800 Receipt Printer, turn on This printer has a cash drawer in Printer Settings before accepting cash.

Receipt layout and branding

Printed receipts carry the same server-built document as the dashboard, emails, and the SMS receipt page, laid out to the venue country's format and written in the location's Receipt & invoice language. Tiquo App and Tiquo PDQ print it in a ticket layout: a two-column header, thin rules, and small icons in place of the word labels for the date and order number, the staff member, eat in or take away, and the table. Card payments taken on a reader add the card details the reader returned. See Receipts and invoices.

Receipt layouts can include:

  • Structured layouts
  • Multi line product formatting
  • Embedded QR codes
  • Customised typography
  • Multi brand theming across locations

Fonts

Tiquo includes over 1,900 fully licensed fonts for use across:

  • Receipts
  • Kitchen tickets
  • Customer facing printouts

All fonts are commercially licensed and safe for production use.

Logos and themes

By default:

  • The logo and font set in the organisation theme will be printed on receipts

However, this can be overridden at sublocation level:

  • If a sublocation has a custom theme applied
  • The ticket printer will print the logo and font defined for that specific sublocation

You can give each brand or venue its own visual identity within the same Tiquo system.
